# Introduction

Nagara is a sovereign, EVM-compatible layer-1 blockchain built on the Polkadot SDK. If you can deploy to Ethereum, you can deploy to Nagara: same Solidity, same tooling (Foundry, Hardhat, Remix, MetaMask, viem, ethers), same JSON-RPC.

**Both networks are live:**

* **Mainnet** — chain ID `16868`, native token `NGRX`
* **Testnet** — chain ID `16869`, native token `tNGRX` (free from the [faucet](/get-testnet-tokens.md))

## At a glance

* **Block time:** 6 seconds
* **Finality:** deterministic (GRANDPA) — blocks are final about two blocks behind the head, and the `finalized` / `safe` block tags work over JSON-RPC
* **EVM version:** Osaka — `PUSH0`, transient storage (`TSTORE`/`TLOAD`), `MCOPY` and `CLZ` are all available
* **Accounts:** standard 20-byte Ethereum addresses and secp256k1 keys
* **Token decimals:** 18
* **Block gas limit:** 75,000,000

{% hint style="warning" %}
Nagara does **not** provide every Ethereum precompile. Read [Differences from Ethereum](/differences-from-ethereum.md) before deploying anything that verifies zk proofs or uses BLAKE2.
{% endhint %}

## Where to start

**Never written a smart contract before?** Follow [Deploy your first contract](/deploy-your-first-contract.md) — a browser-only walkthrough with screenshots — then pick up the free courses in [Learn Solidity](/learn-solidity.md).

**Already an Ethereum developer?**

1. Add the network to your wallet — [Networks](/networks.md)
2. Get test tokens — [Get testnet tokens](/get-testnet-tokens.md)
3. Deploy with your usual tools — [Quickstart with Foundry](/quickstart-with-foundry.md) or [Using Hardhat](/using-hardhat.md)

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.nagara.network/introduction.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
